Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It / Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival

Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It  / Epcot’s International Food & Wine

Written by: Christine Battista

Is it even possible to enjoy your visit to Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival more that you already do? How about taking a class from a culinary professional or a Wine Sommelier in the Festival Center, Chef’s Showcase from 4PM-5:15PM daily? The classes are food demonstrations or beverage seminars that are held daily. Even the famous Chef Morimoto conducted a class at this year’s festival. These fun and informative classes are $49 and well worth every dollar.

I attended a Wineology Class demonstrated by Roxanne Langer. It was labeled Wine FUNdamentals where we learned to combine wine with liquor and other ingredients to create a wine cocktail that will delight either the sweetest or hardest drinker.

As I approached the tables, I noticed that each seat had an empty space next to it to give you elbow room to work. That’s exactly what we did! Roxanne spoke a little about herself, and then went straight to work teaching us how to put together a “hero” or “villain” cocktail. We concocted four cocktails in all.

Hero Cocktail

1.5oz Fruity and sweet red wine
0.5 oz Simple sugar
1 Medium mint leaf
2 Raspberries
Method:
1. Pour red wine and simple sugar into shaker.
2. Muddle 1 medium mint leaf and two raspberries together and put into shaker.
3. Pour into glass.
4. Garnish with one mint leaf and two raspberries on a toothpick.
If you want to bring it to the DARK side!
Add:
0.5 oz Dark Rum
0.5 oz Bourbon

As a parting gift, we were each given a bag with all of the recipes and two Food and Wine Festival coasters.

The $49 dollar price tag was well worth the small mid-afternoon dinner and prize that we received. There were plenty of spaces available as I don’t think a lot of people know about this event.
