I thought I would write about my experience of my
first week as a Disney Intern. I live in the Washington DC Area &
flew down 2 days early since I had so much stuff to bring with me. The
majority of the American interns live in a development
called Vista Way nicknamed” Vista Lay” from the college programmers. I
can say that the nickname did live up to its name. I saw a lot of stuff!
I have a lot of stories ;) The International interns live in a
development called the Commons down the road. These
communities are right off of rt 535 near Disney. Disney World provides
24 hour bus transportation for interns to all the property as well as
Walmart ect.
Every new Disney employee is required to attend
“Traditions” You basically sit in a room all day learning about Walt
Disney & learn about his vision & goals for the company. I
worked in Fantasyland Attractions so had additional training.
I had to memorize all the scenes, fire exits, fire extinguishers,
memorize spiels (this was before it was all automated!) story lines,
characters…. I had to request an extra day of training because you had
to pass a massive test! I was bummed that I didn’t
get Space Mountain at first. I later found out that if Space Mountain
was closed or broken those cast members would get spit on & kicked! I
have a soft place in my heart for Fantasyland because of my time there. ;)
I’d like to say how much Disney has
helped me with my shyness. I used to be a terribly shy & quiet
person. The first time I had to recite the Dumbo spiel in front of live
people I freaked out & cried after! It is a lot harder
than it looks; especially if you aren’t used to being center of
attention by that many people! I worked at: Snow White’s Scary
Adventures RIP :(, Winnie the Pooh ride, Tea Cups, Meet the Little
Mermaid,& Dumbo. I was there January 1999-May 1999. When I got home
my
parents noticed how much I had changed & for the better.
